CNN Highlights College Blogs

May 14, 2007By Michael Stoner

One of the interesting areas of focus on the site is the issue of inappropriate postings. Seth Allen, director of admissions at Dickinson College, is quoted as saying that Dickinson reads posts before they go live on the college’s blogs. In contrast, Nancy Prater from Ball State, points out that “Prospective students can easily compare students’ thoughts with comments on online networking sites like MySpace or Facebook.com … If that doesn’t match what they’re saying on our blogs, there’s a disconnect.”

Not to mention a lack of authenticity. And maybe for no reason. Later in the article, Ben Jones from MIT points out that of 28,000 comments on MIT’s blogs, the Institute has had to eliminate 50 posts for inappropriate content.

Whatever. I'm not much interested in cutting edge but what actually works for real people in the real world. Does that make me a bad person?
