Want Applicants? Give Stephen Colbert an Honorary Degree

Apr 04, 2007By Michael Stoner

The Chicago Sun-Times reports that Knox College, where Colbert delivered a commencement address and received an honorary degree in 2006, is crediting a 20% increase in applicants to Colbert. After he received his degree, he mentioned the college on his Comedy Central show. The newspaper reports:

The school snagged Colbert, of “The Colbert Report’’ on Comedy Central, to speak to graduates last June. It drew headlines again when Colbert said on his show in January that he would burn his honorary degree from Knox if the school grants a similar degree to former President Bill Clinton, this year’s speaker.

Here’s the segment of the “Colbert Report” in which he responds to reports of Knox’s invitation to Clinton.
