Howard Dean is Top Democratic Fundraiser—thanks to the Web

Jul 01, 2003By Michael Stoner

It’s confirmed—upstart Howard Dean is the top Democratic fundraiser, apparently stunning the other Democratic candidates and plenty of pundits by raising more than $7 million, including more than $800,000 on 30 June. The Dean staff used email extensively and posted updates on the campaign site every half hour. See the updates here.

Dean is the protest candidate, of course, whose anti-war stance has galvanized many of those disaffected from the Bush administration. But, more importantly, anyone who needed confirmation of the difference the Internet can make in a campaign now has it.

Whatever. I'm not much interested in cutting edge but what actually works for real people in the real world. Does that make me a bad person?
