A New Definition of Marketing

Jan 11, 2008By Michael Stoner

I know you can hardly wait to find out what it is. So here goes:

Marketing is the activity, set of institutions, and processes for creating, communicating, delivering, and exchanging offerings that have value for customers, clients, partners and society at large.”

This definition of marketing will appear in newspaper articles, blogs, textbooks, and elsewhere where a concise definition of marketing is required. The definition was prepared by members of the AMA and subjected to comment from AMA members and the organization’s board before being finalized and approved in October, 2007. It will be reviewed again in 2012.

Whatever. I'm not much interested in cutting edge but what actually works for real people in the real world. Does that make me a bad person?
