Social Works: Coming to bookshelves and ereaders on 25 February

We haven’t mentioned our book, Social Works, for several months. But out of your sight doesn’t mean it’s out of our minds! We’ve been working very hard to finish it up, attend to all the last-minute details necessary to get everything right, finish the index, proof it again, and send it off to the printer. Lots of work — all of it very satisfying.

Satisfying because as we’ve shared galleys of the book with people outside mStoner, we’ve gotten some great reviews. Lots of kudos and comments like “incredibly valuable” and “a must-read.” Here’s what Teri Lucie Thompson, CMO & Vice President Marketing & Media, Purdue University, said:

The title’s double entendre foreshadows the richness of Social Works, mStoner’s must-read for higher education marketing and communications professionals. Filled with robust case studies — without the usual cookie cutter formatting — the book should become a veritable instruction manual for those launching social media campaigns, leveraging social media for public relations, incorporating social media into fundraising, and using social media to engage audiences from alumni to legislators. Fast-forward five years: I see Social Works, heavily tabbed and weathered, holding a favored position on many marketers’ bookshelves.”

Social Works will be available in print, on the Kindle, and in the iBookstore on 25 February. The print edition will be priced at $39.99, ebooks at $19.99. It’s 235 pages in length — with incredibly useful built-in browsing technology in the form of a terrific index.

We’ve had a lot of requests for pre-orders and, unfortunately, we won’t be able to take pre-orders. So we’ve set up an email list for those interested in being notified the moment Social Works is available. You can sign up here or send me email (to: michael.stoner (at) mstoner.com) and we’ll add your name. [Note: we won’t use this list for any other purpose!] If you subscribe to our Intelligence email, you’ll also receive notification but we’ll contact people on the pre-order list first.

Remember, Social Works: How #HigherEd Uses #SocialMedia to Raise Money, Build Awareness, Recruit Students and Get Results is the only book that explores how colleges and universities around the world have used social media in successful campaigns. It contains 25 case studies of campaigns from 27 institutions, written by 18 contributors, and has a lengthy chapter on how to develop a successful campaign.

In our last post about Social Works, we asked for feedback about the cover. Thanks to all who responded to our survey! And congratulations to Tonya Oaks Smith, who was selected at random from among the respondents and will receive a copy of Social Works.

Whatever. I'm not much interested in cutting edge but what actually works for real people in the real world. Does that make me a bad person?
