Tools of the Trade: iPod

Nov 14, 2004By Voltaire Santos Miran

As if anyone needs a reason to own one.

I use mine fairly heavily when I travel—and I pack it with a couple of audiobooks and the latest HBR downloaded from audible.com (http://www.audible.com). But wait, there’s more…

The Griffin iTalk (http://www.griffintechnology.com/products/italk/) converts my third-gen iPod into a digital recorder, and it’s invaluable for intake meetings and brainstorming sessions. Once I upload the files to my computer, I can easily burn CDs for the rest of the mStoner team and our clients so that we have a record-even more comprehensive than my incredible meeting notes-of what was discussed and decided upon.

A 20GB iPod is supposed to hold 230 hours worth of recordings. You’ll need to recharge the iPod every four hours or keep it plugged in for those daylong meeting sessions. And the sound quality of the recording is remarkably clear and loud (though, for some reason, the iTalk doesn’t pick up the sound of my typing).

I think my team at mStoner is the smartest, funniest, and coolest group of colleagues ever, and I can't imagine being anywhere else. Except Barcelona. Or Paris. Or Istanbul.
