CASE Award Winning Websites—and Judges’ Reports

Jul 06, 2006By Michael Stoner

One of the highlights of my year every year is being locked in a room (figuratively, that is) with 14 or 15 tough, experienced and opinionated professionals judging websites for the CASE Awards of Excellence competition. This international competition is tough: details count, it’s hard to get a pass on anything, and awards are hard to come by. This year, there were 10 awards out of 98 entries for websites. Here are the winners among the websites (technically, Category 10):

GOLD
Carnegie Mellon University, Undergrad Admission Website

SILVER
Ball State University, Experience Ball State
Lewis & Clark College, Inside L&C [password: 1234567]
Minnesota Medical Foundation, Website Redesign
Mount Holyoke College, Virtual Tour
University of California Berkeley, UC Berkeley Online Tour

BRONZE
Eckerd College, Eckerd College Concert Tour & Eckerd Ringers Tour of Italy
University of the Pacific, University of the Pacific Admission Website
University of Missouri-Columbia, Undergraduate Admissions Site
Westminster College, Environmental Studies Tour

As far as the online magazines (Category 18) are concerned, here are the winners:

SILVER
Wood’s Hole Oceanographic Institution, Oceanus

BRONZE
The University of Missouri-Columbia, Illumination Spring 2005 and Fall 2005.

Whatever. I'm not much interested in cutting edge but what actually works for real people in the real world. Does that make me a bad person?
