CASE Awards Reports for 2005

May 24, 2005By Michael Stoner

This year, I led the judging panels for 3 CASE Circle of Excellence Awards categories. I’m happy to say that the reports from these competitions are complete! You can find copies here for the websites, online magazines, and interactive media.

Some overall observations: there were few really good websites entered this year-we gave fewer awards than last year in this category-but the two Gold winners are really excellent. One of them, Carleton University’s Carleton Cafe, is terrific; I’ve been watching this site grow for a couple of years and admire the hard work and original thinking that’s gone into it.

We saw some really terrific online magazines this year. I was really impressed by two of them, but speaking strictly for myself, California State University-Fullerton’s TitanMag is the best online alumni magazine I’ve ever seen.

The interactive media category is becoming an interesting catchall for Flash emails and other kinds of projects, including the award-winner, which is simple and uniquely interactive.

CASE has posted the list of all Circle of Excellence Winners here.

Whatever. I'm not much interested in cutting edge but what actually works for real people in the real world. Does that make me a bad person?
