What is SEO

Search engine optimization (SEO) is a crucial strategy to improving your institution’s website visibility. SEO is the practice of increasing the quantity and quality of traffic to your website through organic search engine results. SEO targets unpaid traffic rather than direct traffic or paid traffic.

How does it work?

When a user goes to a search engine’s web page (Google, Bing, Yahoo, etc) they enter a word, phrase, or question. The search engine’s crawler (a bot that browses the web) goes out and gathers information about all the content they can find on the Internet. The crawlers bring all those webpages back to the search engine to build an index. That index is then fed through an algorithm that tries to match all that data with your query.

Benefits of SEO

When it comes to your marketing strategy, the rewards of SEO highly outweigh the costs. A few of the many benefits include:

  • Save money on ads.
  • Target more quality traffic.
  • Grow quantity of traffic.
  • Improve conversion rates.
  • Increase brand awareness.
