CASE Circle of Award Winners Online Now!

Jun 10, 2007By Michael Stoner

I chaired the judging for the new media categories this year, as I have in the past. There were no awards in the Interactive Multimedia category this year, but some excellent work was honored in Category 10 (Web Sites), especially in Category 10‑B, where institutions could enter special-purpose subsites such as student recruitment sites, alumni sites, and others. My personal favorite this year was Choose CU, the University of Colorado-Boulder’s portal for admitted students, which received a Gold. There was a new category this year, Category 12, for Technology Innovations. The 20 entries in this category included a sweeping array of stuff, from flash drives with an institutional logo to some really inspiring entries. My favorites—the Gold Award winner, Stuff2Do from the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay, and UChiBlogo, the University of Chicago’s alumni magazine staff’s blog.

Note that entries for these awards come from CASE member institutions from around the world. Many of the eight CASE Districts have their own awards programs, but the competition for the international Circle of Excellence Awards is fierce (at least in the new media area) and awards are rare.

I’ll complete the Judges’ Report shortly—I promise. And I’m happy to note that others who lead the judging of the various categories may be similarly late in filing their reports, since there aren’t yet any reports linked from the CASE site.

Whatever. I'm not much interested in cutting edge but what actually works for real people in the real world. Does that make me a bad person?
