This Week: Live Streaming Select Presentations From SUNYCUAD Conference

Jun 01, 2015By Mallory Willsea

SUNYCUAD (State University of New York Council for University Advancement) represents all professionals employed in a cross-section of institutional advancement areas at every New York State University campus. The annual conference is a great opportunity for members to hear from senior executives at major corporations, marketing communication agencies, higher education industry experts and fellow SUNY colleagues.

I’ve participated with SUNYCUAD in some fashion for five years, and I always am very impressed with the caliber of speakers and sessions. During that time, I’ve seen that many non-SUNY employees enjoy following the #sunycuad backchannel on Twitter. We’d like to kick that up a notch.

This year, mStoner and Higher Ed Live will live stream three sessions during the conference. We hope you’ll take advantage of this free professional development opportunity!

You can view the sessions right from the Higher Ed Live homepage at the designated time or from the episode landing page, linked below.

Going Beyond the Faculty Directory

2:30–3:30 p.m. EDT, June 3:

Presenters: Mark Greenfield, director of web services, University at Buffalo; and Peter Evans, co-founder & CEO, ExpertFile

It’s clear that faculty can help you build reputation with a variety of audiences such as media, alumni and donors. However, most online faculty sites get a failing grade. That’s why many schools are now developing “expert centers” to help them tell their stories better. Learn how schools are showcasing their faculty online to deliver richer web experiences for their visitors, complete with mobile profiles that feature multimedia and social integration.

Keynote with SUNY Chancellor Nancy Zimpher

6:30–7:30 p.m. EDT, June 3:

Presenter: Chancellor Nancy Zimpher

Through her strategic plan for the university, The Power of SUNY, Chancellor Zimpher leads a diverse set of successful initiatives in several key areas, including research and innovation, energy, health care, global affairs, and the education pipeline. She has been a vocal advocate for groundbreaking legislative reforms that ensure SUNY can provide broad access to high-quality higher education in an environment of declining state support, while maximizing the system’s impact as an engine of economic revitalization in every region of the state.

One System, Two Homepages

9:30–10:30 a.m. EDT, June 4:

Presenters: Fran Zablocki, strategist at mStoner; Taras Kufel and David Belsky, SUNY

How do you build a homepage that serves the competing needs of 64 campuses, millions of prospective and enrolled students and alumni, and more than 100,000 employees? Create two homepages. That’s what SUNY and mStoner did for the nation’s largest comprehensive public system of higher education. Faced with the challenge of balancing the needs of faculty and staff inside SUNY and the even larger groups on the outside, the solution was to design one site geared toward prospective students and external audiences, SUNY.edu; and another, System.SUNY.edu, meant for faculty, staff and administrators. This session will highlight the major decisions, challenges and solutions that went into the launch of the new SUNY.edu.
