Designing for mobile first?

Sep 28, 2013By Abby McLean

When I first started out designing for the web in 1998 (that’s like … 100 years ago in web years), I designed for the optimal computer screen — a mere 640 x 480 pixels! That is small. Very small.

Way back then my boss predicted that one day we’d design for unlimited screen sizes and internet speeds. The sky was the limit! My mind was blown. I could hardly believe it.

Well that day did come, but he hardly could have predicted that we’d be coming back full circle designing for mobile devices. As more and more people access the web from their mobile devices our screens are smaller but the possibilities are endless. Could designing for mobile first be the way forward?
