Two takes on crisis communications

Mar 09, 2007By Michael Stoner

The earliest is on Andrew Careaga’s blog, higher ed marketing. Andy is a seasoned pro and this post is an insider’s report on what happens when a campus incident-in this case, reports of a student who’s arrested with a bomb and anthrax. All a hoax, of course. All this points up how quickly information spreads-and how little the facts matter, especially when the right-wing blogosphere gets into the act. More coverage by Karine Joly here.

Another interesting read is Joseph Hice’s “Hiding in Plain Sight,” which appears in the March issue of CASE Currents and online here [you’ll have to log in to view the article]. Hice, who’s associate VP for marketing and public relations at the University of Florida, provides some practical, hands-on advice for getting ready for a crisis.

Whatever. I'm not much interested in cutting edge but what actually works for real people in the real world. Does that make me a bad person?
