Oct 23, 2018By mStoner Staff

The teams we’ve worked with over the years have taught and inspired us. They’re true superheroes and we’re excited to feature them in this blog post series.

Kicking things off is Tera Buckley, Assistant Director, Marketing & Creative Services at University of North Dakota.

A little about Tera: Tera Buckley is the Associate Director of Web & Digital Marketing at the University of North Dakota where she oversees the public website, social media accounts and paid media planning and buying. She received her M.S. in Integrated Marketing Communications from West Virginia University and B.B.A. with a major in Marketing from the University of North Dakota.

What was the most impactful project you’ve been associated with at your institution and what was your involvement? Our website redevelopment project with mStoner was hands-down the most impactful project I’ve ever lead. It dramatically improved the way prospective students explore UND.

Coolest pinch yourself moment at work? I love seeing our students get excited when they’re recognized on our website.

What advice do you have for senior leaders about running a successful Marketing department? Don’t even try a major overhaul project if your most senior executive administration doesn’t fully buy in to what you’re doing. I tried for three years to do our website redevelopment project and always hit a dead end. New administration unlocked doors that were previously dead bolted shut. I would have never been able to get it off the ground without their full support.

What do you believe are the most critical skills needed as a leader in higher ed? No one has all of the time or money to do it all. Prioritization is key. Then decisive decision-making is required to get things done and move on to the next.

What is most rewarding about your job; what makes it all worthwhile? I spent 12 years working at a place where there was limited true collaboration among co-workers. This job isn’t that way at all. I love being open and sharing opinions. Being part of an awesome team who works well together is very fulfilling.

Who is one person that influenced your career? My mom. Despite being a high school dropout, she started a real estate career when I was in 7th grade. She did well for herself while still being a hands-on mom.
