Marketing Specialist Job Description

As a marketing specialist at mStoner, you will be responsible for creating and executing digital marketing campaigns and initiatives. Reporting to the director of marketing and business development, you’ll assume responsibility for existing marketing processes and be part of developing new marketing efforts and initiatives. 

The successful candidate must be a strong writer and an excellent communicator who is highly organized and attentive to detail. Ability to manage deadlines across multiple projects and prioritize work will be key to success. The ideal candidate will take the initiative to continuously learn and improve their skills.

Marketing is critical to mStoner’s growth and fully integrated with business development into one practice at the agency. The person in this role will be a key player on the marketing and business development team and critically involved in all of mStoner’s marketing efforts and initiatives, which will provide great learning and growth opportunities. 

This position is Chicago-based, but we’ll consider remote-work for the right candidate.

What You'll Do:

  • Create and optimize on-brand, compelling content for mStoner's marketing channels through the use of storytelling and creativity. Emphasis will be on converting mStoner’s target audiences to marketing qualified leads via calls-to-action and content downloads.
  • Manage mStoner’s website, blog, content marketing, and social media
  • Gather and analyze data to generate and improve content marketing initiatives
  • Research content marketing trends, strategies, and tactics to improve our practice
  • Must use AP Style and SEO-friendly writing techniques
  • Assist with exploration of new social media and marketing channels
  • Evaluate the success of marketing efforts using Google Analytics, Sprout Social, HubSpot and other measurement tools
  • Assist with content management for Higher Ed Live, the premier online professional development network for education professionals produced by mStoner, including:
    • Management of HigherEdLive.com
    • Content for Higher Ed Live’s email newsletter and social channels
    • Sponsored content requests

Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of marketing, communications, or related professional experience
  • Demonstrated experience creating and managing website, social, and email content 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills 
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Strong understanding of digital marketing best practices
  • Strong sense of responsibility, prioritization, and the ability to meet deadlines, capable of juggling multiple projects simultaneously
  • Customer-service focused; always willing to assist where needed
  • Self-starter who will take the initiative for self-improvement in areas of weakness
  • Highly collaborative; able to take direction from individuals at various levels within the firm, but also provide useful feedback and suggestions for process improvement
  • Experienced and skilled with Apple hardware and software products, specifically iWorks (Pages and Keynote), and Google Apps
  • Thrives in a busy, fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work independently, with minimal, remote supervision
  • Possession of a relevant degree in business administration, communication, marketing or related experience

Bonus:

  • Proficient with social networking applications and sites
  • Experience working with WordPress and Hubspot is preferred
  • Google Analytics certification
  • Comfortable working with geographically diverse teams and teams with a mix of employees and subcontractors

Account Manager Job Description

At mStoner, account management and project management come together to create a positive and collaborative client engagement experience. Our team fosters long-term relationships with our clients through brilliant strategy, thoughtful execution, clear communication, and proactive, future-focused planning. The account manager position plays an important role in our agency’s investment in client relationships.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Work with the director of marketing and business development to ensure a seamless transition from prospect to current client.
  • Participate in pitches for new work and in onsite discovery work (travel required).
  • Assist with the onboarding process, providing visibility into immediate next steps for new clients and collecting information and resources necessary to get a strong start on the project.
  • Collaborate with the project team to create and execute integrated strategies for clients.
  • In conjunction with the heads of client experience and project delivery, communicate regularly with clients in status meetings and through our cloud-based tools.
    • Provide updates into our progress.
    • Encourage trust and confidence in our team.
    • Listen actively for additional opportunities for client engagement.
    • Identify potential issues at the earliest stages.
    • Look for opportunities to nurture the client relationship through new ideas, research and thought leadership sharing, and other potential points of connection.
  • Bring client priorities and work requests to the team in a timely and organized manner.
  • Review client-facing deliverables to ensure high quality and accuracy.
  • Work actively with the project team to solve issues immediately to the mutual benefit of the client and the agency.
  • Assist with scoping and framing of proposals for existing clients.
  • Familiar with project management concepts and tools, and able to provide support in these areas on an occasional basis.

Required knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 5+ years of experience, preferably in an account management or consulting role within an agency, or in a marketing and communications role in higher education

Content Specialist Job Description

As a Content Specialist at mStoner, you will be our resident wordsmith and content expert. Reporting to the Director of Content Strategy and Services, you’ll be part of an interdisciplinary creative team, collaborating to develop innovative content solutions. You will help identify client’s content needs, and craft clear, persuasive, engaging copy to meet those needs. You’re a great fit for this role if you are passionate about creating great digital experiences and are eager to hone your UX and content strategy skills. This newly created position will contribute to the growth and creativity of a data-informed, user-centered and technology-forward company.

What You’ll Do

  • Research, write, and edit copy for a variety of audiences
  • Help clients organize their content and plan for large scale content migrations
  • Refresh existing client copy for readability, brand alignment, and SEO optimization
  • Write case studies of recent projects for mstoner.com
  • Collaborate with UX designers to determine content and copy for digital experiences
  • Analyze and assess client’s digital content

Qualifications

UX Specialist (Chicago or Remote)

mStoner is looking for an experienced UX specialist who can translate research, analytics, client goals, and customer needs into solutions that deliver results on university and college websites. This newly created position will contribute to the growth and creativity of a data-informed, user-centered and technology-forward company.

As UX Specialist, you’ll join an experienced team of strategists, designers, and technologists bringing higher education brands to life on the web through elegant and immersive experiences. You’ll report to our Creative Director.

Success in this role requires a user-focused approach, ability to analyze complex or vague situations, and strong verbal and written communication skills. In addition, we’re looking for someone who will thrive as a member of a collaborative, casual, and collegial team in multiple locations.

Estimated compensation: $65,000 to $85,000 depending on level of experience.

What You’ll Do

  • Develop UX ideas and solutions and express them in the form of wireframes, user flows, personas, experience maps, design specs and/or lo-fi mock-ups
  • Work with designers and developers to ensure UX solutions are properly translated to design and code
  • Facilitate user research studies and other methods of discovery
  • Conduct moderated usability tests via online tools, synthesizing the findings into client-facing documents with recommended improvements
  • Contribute to reports, presentations, and other client-facing deliverables
  • Partner with content specialists to develop user-centered information architecture

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Three or more years of experience in a digital agency
  • Prior experience delivering UX solutions to clients
  • Experience in and passion for designing digital products from ideation to implementation
  • Fluent in UX design tools, such as Sketch, inVision, Optimal Workshop, Lookback, and Slickplan
  • Proven experience with a variety of user testing and UX research methods
  • Previous experience working in Higher Education communications, a plus
  • Previous experience developing solutions for large and complex websites with content management systems/processes, a plus
  • Google analytics certification, a plus

  • Must be able to collaborate and work effectively in a remote / distributed environment
  • Must be available to travel two to four days per month for client discovery
